Virtuoso is a performance event for advanced handbell ringers sponsored by The Raleigh Ringers.  Participants will be chosen through an audition process that will include a submission of a performance DVD, at least 2 recommendations, and a 2-page application form.  The 3 day event culminates with a concert on the stage at the Meymandi concert hall, sharing the stage with The Raleigh Ringers.

What is Virtuoso? 
Virtuoso is a unique event for advanced ringers.  Two 5-7 octave ensembles (29 ringers) will have the opportunity to ring under the direction of Dr. William Payn for an intensive two days of rehearsals in preparation for sharing the concert stage with The Raleigh Ringers in a performance Meymandi Concert Hall.

What is the process to be accepted for Virtuoso? Prospective participants will need to submit an application, a minimum of two ringing references and video showing their performance within a full choir.  

What does the registration fee include?  The registration fee of $395 includes two days of rehearsals with Dr. Payn, five meals (Friday lunch & dinner, Saturday lunch & dinner, Sunday lunch), and all transportation if staying at the recommended event hotel.   No need to rent a car!

What is not included in the registration fee? Participants will need to provide their transportation to Raleigh, hotel room (if needed), music and professional performance attire for the final concert.

What is the professional attire needed for the final concert?  For men – black tux, white shirt, black bow tie, black shoes & socks, black gloves.    For women – black pants or long skirt, black top with approved neckline, black shoes, black gloves

Is special attire needed during the rehearsals? Participants may wear comfortable attire for rehearsals.   Participants will have the opportunity to purchase a polo shirt with the Virtuoso logo, but will not be required to wear it at any time during the event.

What is the lodging situation for the event? Participants may stay wherever they would like for the event.   However, the recommended hotel provides a discount for event attendees and provides free breakfast.  All the transportation for the weekend will be provided (to rehearsals, meals, performance venue and airport) if participants stay at the recommended hotel.  We can also assist with roommate matching for participants who stay at the event hotel.

Where will the rehearsals be held? All rehearsals will be held at Raleigh Ringers Central, in Raleigh, North Carolina.   All equipment will be provided, along with snacks and refreshments.

What are participants responsible for before the actual event? Upon acceptance, participants will need to acquire the music and learn their ringing position.   Ringing positions will be assigned after acceptance into the ensemble.   Music will need to be shared with a stand partner for rehearsals and the performance.  Contact information for stand partners will be provided after acceptance to the event.
