Join hundreds of other ringers to work with Fred Gramann at the Capital Area Handbell Festival. Massed pieces (plus an optional piece) will be rehearsed in preparation of a concert at the end of the day. In addition to the massed ringing, choirs may choose to perform a solo. Registration includes lunch and a lunchtime concert by The Raleigh Ringers. Saturday’s activities begin with a downbeat at 9:00 am and conclude with a free massed choir concert at 4:00 pm.
Clinician

An internationally known composer, conductor, educator and handbell clinician, Fred Gramann is frequently invited all over the world to conduct festivals. He has been the director of the Bay View Week of Handbells since 2018 and has conducted both Distinctly Bronze East and West three times. He holds organ performance degrees from Syracuse University and the University of Michigan. With his wife, Nancy, he went to Paris, France in 1972 for organ study with Marie-Claire Alain and Maurice Duruflé. What was to be a nine-month stint evolved into a fifty-year musical adventure in the City of Light. Fred held the position of Director of Music at the American Church in Paris from 1976 to 2022 where he was organist and conducted the choral and handbell programs. Fred and Nancy now reside in the French city of Orléans.
