DESCRIPTION:March 7\, 2026\nHighland United Methodist Church  |  Raleigh\, NC | 9 AM-5 PM\nThis festival features Level 2 music for inter-generational\, adult\, and youth choirs or individual ringers. The festival includes massed ringing sessions to polish the prepared music and two breakout classes led by members of The Raleigh Ringers. The day concludes with a short concert presented by the participants at 4:00 pm that is open to the public. \nGuest Conductor Gillian Erlenborn\nGillian Erlenborn is the conductor of Handbell Choirs at Westminster Choir College of Rider University. She is also the Choral Director and Musical Theatre Teacher at Frelinghuysen Middle School\, in Morristown\, New Jersey\, where she utilizes handbells and handchimes in her vocal ensemble curriculum to better engage her students in a full body and literacy-focused musical education. Additionally\, Gillian serves as the handbell choir director at Middlebush Reformed Church in Middlebush\, New Jersey. She can be found at various state and national conferences speaking about the benefits of handbells and handchimes in the music classroom. Gillian is an alumna of Westminster Choir College\, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Master of Arts in Teaching. SUMMARY:Great Rep Ring & Classes
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the morning for the Great Rep Ring\, a chance for ringers and directors to explore new music\, including the music that will be used at that year’s Capital Area Handbell Festival. This session is led by director David Harris. In the afternoon\, members of The Raleigh Ringers will lead handbell technique classes. Registration for each session is separate\, so you may choose what best fit your needs.\n \nGreat Rep Ring – 9:30-11:30am – $20\nUnder the direction of David Harris\, you’ll get to ring through a selection of handbell music. Included will be the music that will be used at the upcoming Capital Area Handbell Festival in November. At the event you can also purchase the Capital Area music and other titles without having to incur shipping charges. \nTechnique Classes – 1:00-4:00pm – $10 each\n\nStuck in the Middle – 1:00-1:50pm\nThe middle bells or “battery” is a fun place to be! There can be a lot of action in the music of the middle bells\, and this class will give you some strategies and practice for handling what comes up. \nTreble Bell Techniques – 2:00-2:50pm\nLearn how to handle more than one bell in each hand. This class teaches the basics of Four-in-Hand and Shelly multiple bell techniques. \nProblem Solving in Handbells – 3:00-3:50pm\nWhen you are studying your part and come across a challenge\, how are you supposed to play that? We will look at real examples in handbell music and review different solutions. Learn when and how to use different tools from your toolbox!

The 10-session semester culminates with a brief sharing concert on November 3. \nThe Millbrook Ringers\nThis intermediate/advanced group focuses on musicality and exploring unique handbell repertoire (playing level 3-5 music). \nRehearsals: Tuesday evenings\, 6-7:30 pm \nRequirements: Must be able to read music at handbell level 4; ringers should be properly skilled in ringing accidentals\, techniques\, rhythms\, meter changes\, damping\, and ringing stroke. SUMMARY:Capital Area Handbell Festival
DESCRIPTION:November 7\, 2026\nNorth Carolina State Fairgrounds  |  Raleigh\, NC\nJoin hundreds of other ringers to work with Fred Gramann at the Capital Area Handbell Festival. Massed pieces (plus an optional piece) will be rehearsed in preparation of a concert at the end of the day. In addition to the massed ringing\, choirs may choose to perform a solo. Registration includes lunch and a lunchtime concert by The Raleigh Ringers. Saturday’s activities begin with a downbeat at 9:00 am and conclude with a free massed choir concert at 4:00 pm. \nClinician\n \nAn internationally known composer\, conductor\, educator and handbell clinician\, Fred Gramann is frequently invited all over the world to conduct festivals. He has been the director of the Bay View Week of Handbells since 2018 and has conducted both Distinctly Bronze East and West three times. He holds organ performance degrees from Syracuse University and the University of Michigan. With his wife\, Nancy\, he went to Paris\, France in 1972 for organ study with Marie-Claire Alain and Maurice Duruflé. What was to be a nine-month stint evolved into a fifty-year musical adventure in the City of Light. Fred held the position of Director of Music at the American Church in Paris from 1976 to 2022 where he was organist and conducted the choral and handbell programs. Fred and Nancy now reside in the French city of Orléans. \n  \n  \nRepertoire\nAlleluia / arr.
