Development Administrator Volunteer Position Available

The Raleigh Ringers, an internationally acclaimed, advanced community handbell ensemble based in Raleigh, North Carolina, seeks a highly motivated, creative, entrepreneurial development professional with a proven track record in all fundraising areas. The Development Administrator will cultivate and maintain positive relationships with current and potential donors, including individuals, corporations, foundations and public sources. This part-time volunteer position reports to the President of The Raleigh Ringers. The Development Administrator would be responsible for the following ongoing, seasonal, and long-range tasks (and other duties as assigned).

Ongoing Tasks:

  • Serve on the Fundraising Committee and participate in meetings of the Board of Directors as needed. These meetings are typically the first Tuesday evening of each month. Prepare monthly and annual donation reports for the Board.
  • Set and meet annual giving targets for a growing donor base.
  • Maintain relationships with our donors (currently approximately 100):
    • Send timely and appropriate gift acknowledgements.
    • Create and maintain donor acknowledgement lists (by giving level) on a monthly basis for the website and concert programs.
    • Manage the donor database by keeping donor records up to date and tracking key relationships with current and potential donors.
    • Coordinate with the Business Manager to process gifts and track the fulfillment of matching gifts and pledges as received, including reviewing the information in the donor database for accuracy.
    • Create, review, and distribute annual tax letters through the donor management system (primarily automatic emails, but some need to be sent via USPS).
  • Build relationships with our donors that further connect them to our mission and programs, cultivating their engagement and ongoing support.

Seasonal Tasks

  • Develop and implement the annual season sponsor campaign (mid-late December depending on timing of Holiday Concerts).
    • Develop targeted lists for general asks, specific asks, etc.
    • Work with the media and marketing volunteer to develop outreach materials.
  • Plan and attend fundraising and donor appreciation events – primarily the donor reception at the Spring Concert and the hospitality suite at the Holiday Concerts in Raleigh (annually, May or June, and December).
  • Provide oversight to the silent auction committee for the bi-annual silent auction at the Spring Concert in Raleigh and virtually (bi-annually, May or June).
  • Manage the redemption of complimentary concert tickets via Ticketmaster for the Spring Concert and Holiday Concerts in Raleigh (annually, May or June, and December).
    • Coordinate with the Business Manager to communicate ticketing needs to the Duke Energy Center Box Office
    • Update instructions and distribute to donors based on giving level.
    • Working with the Business Manager, follow up and answer any questions from donors who may need assistance.

Long-Range Tasks

  • Take the lead role in increasing funds raised from individuals and corporations.
    • Conduct prospect research on individuals, corporations, and foundations.
    • Expand fundraising efforts directed to area businesses and arts philanthropists to build stronger connections with these communities.
    • Create materials and train other members of the organization to assist with approaching individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Create and implement an overall development strategy to ensure long-term sustainability of The Raleigh Ringers, including:
    • Develop and implement a corporate giving program.
    • Develop and implement a planned giving program.

Qualifications:

The small size of our organization necessitates a Development Administrator who is hands-on, extremely well organized, self-motivated, and able to work autonomously without constant supervision – while also taking direction from our President, Music Director, and an actively engaged Board. 
 
The most essential skills include:

  • excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • effective time management skills.
  • strong computer literacy.
  • experience with donor management software, especially the Kindful platform.
 
The successful candidate will be passionate about the arts and understand how the arts benefit society. 

About The Raleigh Ringers:

Since its founding in 1990, The Raleigh Ringers has been dazzling concert audiences with unique interpretations of sacred, secular and popular music, including famous rock ‘n’ roll tunes arranged just for handbells. 
 
Donations are used to help The Raleigh Ringers meet its operational goals and programmatic mission: to promote the art of handbell ringing by presenting entertaining performances of advanced handbell music to the widest possible audience; commissioning composers to create works for advanced handbell choirs; supporting and encouraging fellow handbell musicians; and offering educational opportunities through classes and event sponsorship. The Raleigh Ringers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. 
 
Salary: This is a volunteer position. The successful candidate has the opportunity to be nominated for a position on our Board of Directors.

Job Type: Part-time (10 hours/week average). Some evening and weekend hours and attendance at events in Raleigh, NC, will be required.
Location: Primarily virtual, though must be able to travel to Raleigh, NC, as needed for events.  
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform computer work for extended periods of time.
